Building a better way to learn jazz technique
We built this platform because traditional dance education rarely provides the instant feedback needed for technique improvement. Jazz dance requires specific muscle control and spatial awareness that develops through repeated practice with accurate correction. Most students spend months without understanding whether their isolation work is actually correct or just feels right. We wanted to change that by creating a system where you can check your form immediately, see exactly what needs adjustment, and track how your control improves over specific time periods.
Started with a specific problem
Helena spent seven years teaching jazz at studios across three countries. She kept seeing the same pattern: students would practice isolation exercises for weeks, develop muscle memory for incorrect movements, and then need months to unlearn those habits. The disconnect between practice and correction was too long. Students needed feedback within seconds, not days after the next class. That timing issue became the core problem we decided to solve.
Built the technical foundation
Dimitri worked in educational software development for institutional clients before this. He had experience building assessment systems that could process student responses in real time and provide structured feedback. The challenge was adapting those techniques to movement analysis rather than written answers. We spent eight months developing the comparison algorithms that could identify common jazz technique errors and explain them in terms students actually understand.
Tested with real students
Before launching the full platform, we ran pilot courses with 84 students across different skill levels. We needed to understand if instant feedback actually improved learning speed compared to traditional weekly corrections. The data showed students caught and corrected technical errors 3.2 times faster when they received immediate feedback. That confirmation shaped how we structured every subsequent course module and assessment point.
How we developed the platform
Identified the core gap
Traditional jazz instruction provides corrections during weekly classes. Students practice between sessions without knowing if their technique is developing correctly. We focused on closing that feedback gap rather than replacing instructors entirely.
Developed the assessment logic
Built comparison systems that analyze student recordings against reference movements. The system identifies 23 common technical errors in jazz isolation work and provides specific correction instructions for each one.
Created the course structure
Organized content into progressive skill modules. Each module contains technique demonstrations, practice exercises with instant feedback, and skill assessments that unlock the next difficulty level when mastered.
Implemented gamification elements
Added progress tracking, skill badges, and achievement markers. Students can see exactly which techniques they've mastered and which areas need more practice time. The visual progress system helps maintain consistent practice habits.
Launched international access
Made the platform available worldwide with support for different time zones and learning schedules. Students from 47 countries currently use the system to develop their jazz technique at their own pace.
What guides our development decisions
Accuracy over speed
We prioritize correct technique analysis even when it requires more processing time. A slightly delayed accurate assessment helps students more than an instant incorrect one.
Clear explanations
Feedback explains what needs correction and why it matters for overall technique. Students understand the reasoning behind each adjustment recommendation.
Measurable progress
Students can track specific skill improvements over defined time periods. Progress tracking focuses on concrete technique mastery rather than abstract measurements.
Accessible worldwide
Platform works across different time zones and internet connection qualities. Students in various countries can access the same quality of instruction and feedback.
See how the system works
Try a sample module to understand how instant feedback improves technique development. You can test the assessment system with basic isolation exercises before committing to a full course.
